What are you doing?

March 30, 2012

It’s funny that I’m always asking my husband, “What are you doing?” Or when I call a friend and say, “Hi, so, what are you doing?” When I call my kids on skype, I always ask, “What are you guys doing?” Well, the other day my husband and I were driving somewhere and as we were talking about something put something in my purse, and I said, “What am I doing?” He laughed and said, “Yeah, what ARE you doing?” (I was putting something in my purse that didn’t go there.)

Do we really ask ourselves the same questions we ask others? I needed to take a moment and think about what I was doing, because I find that most of the time I’m not paying attention. So therefore, sometimes I may find my keys in the refrigerator, or forgot where I put my slippers. It’s because I’m not paying attention to what “I’m” doing… I was too busy trying to figure out what everyone else was doing! Yikes. The Bible says that we are what we think, so my “doing” follows what I’m thinking. I like to say it this way, “Where my thoughts go my body follows.”

How do we stay in peace when there is no peace?

March 29, 2012

This is a loaded question. Recently I did a radio broadcast on this topic, and I think it needs repeating. Because we want to stay in peace, but many of us keep loosing it. Then it takes forever to find it again. Some of you never had any peace in the first place, and some of you get peace when no one is around. But, that is not what the Lord intended. He wants us to “BE” in peace 24/7.

I can spend a whole lot of time on this, but I won’t. Let’s make it simple by using one scripture.  Isaiah 26:3 “Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusts in Thee.” I bet you have this passage memorized, but is it working? I can’t tell you how many people I minister to that are filled with negative and painful thoughts. Do you think that brings peace? No… it doesn’t. But then we say, “But I can’t stop thinking about those things.” We can spend time talking about taking thoughts captive or having self-control… but there is an easier way. And it is found in this passage.

Let’s take a closer look at it and break it down for the answer to our peace. It says that God is going to keep us in peace when we do something. What is that something? When our mind is stayed upon Him. Okay, I hear you… you say you do keep your mind on Him. But I have tell you that if you have a hard time doing that, there is something else going on underneath everything, and again, it’s found in this passage. We can only keep our mind on Him, WHEN we trust Him. Ouch! So… let’s just speak straight here… right to the truth. If you are not having peace in your life and heart, then it could be you aren’t trusting God. Let’s be honest. That is the only place to start, with honesty of your own heart and mind. But it’s okay… because it’s just what is “in” you.. it’s not you. And I’m sure you want anything out of you that doesn’t belong, right? So let’s move on to something else behind all this.

We can’t even trust God without first knowing Him. So, if you have a hard time trusting God and believing He loves you, will take care of you, has your back, wants good for you, wants you well, then it could be because you don’t “know” Him. Ouch again. So the bottom line is “knowing” Him. There is a passage in Matthew 22:29 that says “you know not the scriptures nor the Power of God.” We need to “know” the scriptures because the Bible is Jesus. Jesus is the Word of God. So that means we need to know Jesus!!!  So… by knowing Jesus, we will “know” our Father.  And He also said, “I don’t do anything I haven’t seen my Father do, and I haven’t said anything I haven’t heard my Father say.”

See, Jesus showed us the Father. He even said, “If you have seen me, you see the Father, for I and my Father are one.” So, how do we get our peace? We get to know the Father and the rest follows. I even think that is a scripture…”Seek First the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (trust, faith, hope, love, etc.) will be added to you. You don’t even have to try to get them, they will come to you!!! That is the more excellent way for sure. (Oh… I just caught something…  “When we get to know the Father the REST follows.” We enter into His rest when we “know” Him!)

So by “knowing” God, we can stay in peace (and that rest) when everything around us is not peaceful. We hear the news, bad reports from the doctors, family stuff, things are falling apart all around us, can cause us to lose our peace. But within every situation if you put your confidence in God for whatever it is that is happening, believing and trusting Him BECAUSE You know His heart and character, and God is ONLY love, you will remain in peace. But.. if you start focusing on the situation, looking to others to help you find peace, you will remain in fear. Which is the better way? I wrote something down once and I’ll repeat it here: When we put our confidence in God = Blessings. When we put our confidence in man = Curses (Psalm 118:8). We have a choice… the Bible says to pursue peace.. and the easiest way to do that is to get to “know” your Father in Heaven. Much easier than trying to do a bunch of other stuff that won’t work anyway.

When is enough, enough?

March 17, 2012

How many of us think we aren’t doing enough? I got a real amazing revelation on this, this very morning, and I hope it helps someone too.

I have a pretty busy schedule, and many things are going on. But for some reason, I would never think it is enough. I do recall that the enemy will make you “think” that you aren’t’ doing enough, when in fact you are probably doing more than you need to. That comes from a “religious spirit” and I’ve addressed this in previous blogs, but suffice to say,  he is an accuser and wants us to always feel bad. So, we do need to check our spirit with that first, but the Lord showed me another facet.

It’s not that it’s not enough… The Lord said this to me, “Enough is enough when you are in My will.” Wow… let me say that again, “Enough IS enough when we are in His will.” That means, that even if we do a little tiny thing for the Lord, it will bring you contentment and peace because you are doing His will for your life. I noticed when people get so busy, they are looking for peace in what they are doing. They start getting involved in everything that comes their way, but they aren’t finding peace at all, just a bunch of work and burden. And I believe it’s because we are chasing things that are not God’s will for us. I think that makes a lot of sense.

I believe God wants us to find our “one”  or “two” things, and do them well. We will find contentment and satisfaction, and won’t need to do any more! Now… we may have opportunity to do other things, but always keeping in mind the first fruit, His peace. Follow after peace. Listen to your own heart. And re-evaluate what your tasks are. Weigh them against peace. Because more than likely, you are doing enough… but just too much of the wrong things. LOL

A two step review:  1) is your feelings of not doing enough coming from a religious spirit? or 2) Is this feeling coming from not being in God’s will? Both good things to investigate.

The Bible say that He will keep us in perfect peace when our minds are fixed on Him. That means we need to follow after that peace… and when we have peace, it means our eyes are upon Him! Cool…. eh?

Herbs and Vitamins… are they godly?

March 10, 2012

Big question….   And for years I struggled with this myself. I fell under a teaching that says when we use “alternative” medicines, such as herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc., that we are by-passing the curse. Meaning that we are trying to get healed using supplements instead of dealing with the possible spiritual root in our heart that causes our bodies to be out of balance in the first place. I’m not talking pharmaceutical right now… that’s for another time…. because that I do have a problem with IF taken for a long period of time. What I’m talking about are supplements that “supplement” our body.

I have been teaching for over 15 years on spiritual roots and blocks to healing. And have seen my life transform, and others as well, when we deal with the issues in our hearts of unforgiveness, bitterness, fear, anger, and anything that is tormenting us in opposition of the Word of God. All of these are sins, or spiritual issues that need to be addressed so our mind and body is healthy. But then if we have done all these things, but still have a lack in our body’s nutrients, what then? I’m at that place myself. I know I need to eat more fruits and vegetables, but as we all know, the nutrients are lacking today. So there are a ton of vitamin stores out there promoting “well being.” We can go overboard the other way too and focus only on those things to get us well. Because if we rely on those and exercise alone, then we are out of balance there too. Because we are to only rely on God! This reminds me of the scripture that says, They had more confidence in the creation rather than the creator (Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.)  And, as you will see in a few minutes,  God created all the herbs and minerals for our bodies to use.

See what happened, I believe, is that the enemy got ahold of these essential vitamins and minerals and turned it into something ugly. It turned into a money making business instead of a “life changing” business. It became a “crutch” to people, and they began worshipping it, serving it, and falling under its control. The money is plentiful because people want to live long and healthy lives and will pay anything for it. They began focusing on the “creation” more than the “creator.”

But the truth is, God created those things for our bodies to supplement! How do I know? Let’s let Genesis 1:29 answer this:  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (your food).) Need I say more?

And let me even substantiate it with this thought. What was the first gift that Jesus was given at his birth? Gold…. frankincense and myrrh… What is frankincense and myrrh? Herbs! Wow… What do you think they were used for? I believe for medicinal purposes. See, when these gifts were given, they were used to sustain Joseph and Mary when they had to flee for their lives from the King who wanted to kill Jesus. These substances were what sustained them for the years ahead until they were told they could return. Gold was to financially sustain them, and the other two gifts was for their health. And let me add this… I’m sure it was a substantial amount too! Not what we see in the pictures of a small box held out in each hand. I believe their camels were loaded! Well, that’s just my take on it.

I never saw that until this past week. So now I see that I’ve been “bewitched” all those years, fearing taking a vitamin because I thought I was disappointing God or not having enough faith to produce what my body needed through prayer. But the fact is, we need to “add” these things to our bodies because our body depletes them every day. It’s like water. We need to add water daily because that is what it needs to sustain life in us. We need to eat every day too, and herbs, etc., are medicinal for our health! If they were good enough for Jesus, they are certainly good enough for us. And there is a scripture that says no one is to tell us what to eat and not eat, because that comes from doctrines of devils (ouch!)… 1 Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

So again, our faith in God is first and foremost, believing Who He is and What He has Said. Dealing with our spiritual issues and getting our hearts clean is secondary, and then using supplements is third, and exercising is forth. In that order, otherwise, we can get out of balance friends, and that’s when we can get into trouble. We are to serve the CREATOR above His creation (plant, animals, food, earth), that even includes ourselves, because we are also His creation. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33.

Do you self-sabotage?

March 3, 2012

What exactly does it mean to self-sabotage? It means that we prevent good things from happening to us by our own actions, words, and deeds.

Why do we do this?

  • We prevent something good from happening, so that someone else won’t hurt us first.
  • Deep down inside we don’t feel like we deserve to be blessed
  • And if we are blessed, we wouldn’t know what to do with it and be in fear that it would be taken away anyway. So why set ourselves up for it in the first place, so we’d rather have nothing!

Wow… what a vicious cycle! Listening and responding to wrong thoughts is causing our problems. As you see, no one has done anything to us, we are doing this to ourselves! Jeremiah 5:25 says that we prevent good things from happening to us because of our sins and iniquities. So what is the sin here?  Pride and fear (to name a few), oh and unforgiveness is always in there somewhere too.

Let’s take a look at pride. We have ourself on our mind so much, that everything revolves around our feelings. And with that kind of pride comes self-pity! Ouch!

Let’s take a look at fear. Fear always comes when we don’t feel loved, understood, accepted and safe. And since self-sabotage describes a person who has all these things, we need to get rid of the fear that prompts us to self-sabotage. Because frankly, it’s all about relationships!

If we want to be free from these things and truly live in the abundance God has for us, we have to get RID of these file spirits that are working in our lives. We have to remember that these things that we have are NOT us… they are sins “IN” us. Paul even says it this way, “It’s not me, but the sin in me…” If we can get ahold of that, we can get rid of half our problems!

I’ve been ministering to an individual who has some self-pity. Self-pity causes us to self-sabotage! When I mentioned it, the ministry meeting was over… and he left the room. This was a clear indication that he was being deceived by the enemy. Caspar McCloud wrote a book called, “Exposing the Spirit of Self-Pity” and addresses these very things so we can get clean. But, those who are duped by this spirit don’t think THEY are the ones needing to change, it’s everyone else. Yet, when you mention that they may be blaming everyone else, they get defensive. This is a true indicator of self-pity. See, it’s because it’s hidden! No one wants to admit of having self-pity… that is even worse to admit than pride. But… in order to get free, we DO have to admit it! And remember, YOU are not self-pity, YOU are not pride, YOU are not fear, these are things (sins) working in your life. And what does God say about our sins? Recognize them, and repent!

To talk a bit more about self-pity: When we live with someone who has self-pity, they are always looking for sympathy. Someone to “understand” what has happened to them, and sit with them and allow them to suck their thumb. That is co-dependency and then we get into manipulation, we can’t have any part in that. The TRUTH is the only thing that will help get rid of this. But… self-pity will blind them. However, if the person pushes past and says, “Hey, maybe I’m the one causing my own problems” there is help for that person.

I remember when I was dating, I would break up with them before a holiday so they wouldn’t break up with me first! I was on a self-protection mode, which was really self-sabotaging, self-pity talking, and pride! Ouch, Ouch and Ouch!

But I was willing to see the truth IN me, and now that I know that these are NOT me… but sin IN me… then the ouching wasn’t so hard and was able to fight the battle with the Lord, and I got free.

Then, that particular individual began telling me the reason for their disease, and what was going on around them that caused them to get sick. See, that is self-pity and blame. Because if our immune system was working properly, most of our dis-eases would never come. Like I said moments ago, unforgiveness is in there somewhere, and we know it’s there if our immune system has been compromised. There is a slew of dis-eases from a compromised immune system. We have to forgive everyone, including ourselves.

Here is an example: A soldier who was traumatized in a war (and never was healed by the emotional wounding) can actually open themselves up for many dis-eases. Because they faced fear of dying/death, every day… don’t you think that would mess up someone’s immune system? Any time we have fear, anxiety and stress, it causes immune system deficiency, so then when we are exposed to a virus or chemical agent, we can be impacted by it. Or fear itself, can cause heart conditions. And because that individual survived, they have guilt and condemnation for living, and self-sabotages their lives because they don’t feel they deserve to have a life or be happy. This truly messes up with the immune system.

But, if their immune system was at its best, and they were able to forgive, love themselves, this person’s heart would have what it needed to defeat any virus or outside chemical from messing with them. Have you ever heard someone say “They are toxic?” That means they see so much “junk” in a person, and stay far from them. This “toxic” person has truly done it to themselves, through self-sabotaging! Too many people don’t see this, they choose to blame rather then roll up their sleeves and get to at exposing the enemy and destroying the works of darkness in their lives.

I hope today you have seen a little clearer into your life and the life of others, decide today to take the enemy down, and allow the Lord to reign in your heart and mind!
