Gird Up Your Loins

February 21, 2015

That phrase came to me this morning while I was reading the account of Joseph when he was sold into slavery and then made ruler second to Pharaoh. But there was something I never saw before. The scripture “what you meant for evil God meant for good” is one we always refer to when talking about Joseph. But what I found truly changed my thinking towards what is going on in the world today. It’s found in Genesis 45:8 “So now it was not you that sent me here but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.”

So. God sent Joseph to the house of Pharaoh. The brothers didn’t do it. They were the “means” to get Joseph to Pharaoh. Yes, he endured a lot, and so must we, as we end up where God wants us. Because the “end” is the real reason we go in the first place. To fulfill what God is bringing us to. But the journey to get there may not be pleasant. But in that, God is with us, just as He was with Joseph.

So “gird up your loins” means to realize that everything that is happening is to get us ready for where God is taking us. To not grow weary. To not faint. To not lose courage. To realize no one is out of control, not even Isis… Not even the government…. not even your boss… not even your children… nothing is done without a purpose of God… nothing!  This alone should cause us to shout for joy. Knowing that those who “think” they are in charge are NOT. God is using those means to fulfill the things He is soon bringing to pass. Let’s not fear. Let’s not faint. Let’s decide today to stand strong, believing that what we have to endure and go through is for the greater good of all. We are ALL part of that plan. No one is excempt from God’s plan. Not the homeless, not the poor, not the rich, not movie stars, not religion, nothing… everything is part of His amazing grace and plan for all people.

Be strong in the Lord and the power if His might. Pray without ceasing. Be filled with power, love and a sound mind. Take on the mind of Christ. Continue to speak to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs making melody in your heart to the Lord. For nothing is a surprise to God… everything has a purpose that is going on… so do what Jesus sent to give us… an abundant life where we are right now. To be content with what we have, where we are, because it is going to eventually be used for the greater good of all.

Scriptures say, “Everything works for THE good for those who love God.” It doesn’t say “works out for YOUR good..” Because whatever we do in life impacts all those around us. But in that, it will work out for your good too. Sometimes it doesn’t look like it’s very good, but it will be in the end.

Look at what happened to Jesus. It wasn’t a good thing for him to go through, but it was for the good of ALL… me and you. And in the end, it turned out good for Him too, because He is alive and well sitting at the right had of the Father. Awaiting his orders to return for His children… us. If He didn’t go to the cross, none of us would have been saved.

So lets stop complaining about the world, and start to see what God is doing IN the world…
